Most patients find acupuncture to be relaxing and rejuvenating. Acupuncture needles can be inserted without discomfort to the patient. Some patients may feel a slight pinch that passes quickly, like a mosquito bite. Once the needle is inserted, the patient may feel sensations such as heaviness, lightness, throbbing, tingling or itchiness. In many cases, the sensation is more subtle. Our clinic primarily uses Japanese needles, which are extremely thin. This means that discomfort is rarely experienced during treatment and if there is discomfort, it is very minimal. Our technique is very gentle and strives for subtle rather than strong needle stimulation. Acupuncture is one of the safest healing systems when practiced by a licensed acupuncturist. Licensed acupuncturists must complete a rigorous three year master's degree program and pass a national certification program before they are allowed to practice. We abide by universal safety precautions, OSHA standards, and only use disposable stainless steel acupuncture needles which are factory sterilized. |
